Ah, Arizona. Land of sun, scorching summer days and winter skiing fun. That’s right, skiing. Yes, Virginia, Arizona, known for tumbleweed snowmen, actually gets snow.
There are four ski areas to choose from in Arizona, all within a few hours drive from Phoenix, the capital of Arizona.
The most well-known of the ski areas in Arizona is located in northern Arizona, 7 miles north of Flagstaff. The Arizona Snowbowl offers 4 lifts and 32 trails for skiers and snowboards of all levels, and 2,300 feet of vertical drop. You can also test your freestyle skills at their Sunset Terrain Park which includes obstacles and spines. Lodging available in nearby Flagstaff or you can choose to stay at the ski resort at the Ski Lift Lodge & Cabins located at the base of the San Francisco Peaks. For reservations, call (928) 774-0729.
The largest ski resort in Arizona is located in McNary in Eastern Arizona. The Sunrise Park Resort is owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe, and is just a 4-hour drive from Tucson and Phoenix. You have for your skiing and snowboarding pleasure 800 acres on three interconnected mountains. Base elevation is 9,200 feet extending up to 11,000 feet. They offer 8 lifts and 65 runs for skiers of all levels, as well as a separate snowboarding area, cross country ski trails, and a Terrain Park featuring a snow half pipe, implanted wood and metal rails. The Sunrise Ski Resort is open from the first week of December through the first weekend of April. Night skiing begins January 2. Lodging is available at the 100-room Sunrise Park Lodge located on Sunrise Lake. Winter rates begin at $124 per night. Call (800) 772-7669 for more information.
Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley is located on Mt. Lemmon just outside Tucson, which is the largest city in Southern Arizona. Though smaller than the Arizona Snowbowl and Sunrise Park Resort, Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley offers 80 skiable acres, 3 lifts, 18 trails and a 907-ft. vertical drop. The longest run is 8,500 ft. Their trail ratings are: Easiest at 20%; More Difficult at 38% and Most Difficult at 42%. There is no cross-country or heli skiing available.
For those of you learning to ski, you might want to head up to the Elk Ridge Ski Area, formerly the Williams Ski Area located in Williams, Arizona, approximately 30 miles west of Flagstaff. The Elk Ridge Ski Area offers two lifts and seven trails. Elk Ridge is typically open Thursday through Monday, starting mid December. Thursdays is “skiing only” day. For more information call (928) 814-5038.
If you’re planning a visit to Arizona this winter, or if you live in Arizona, it’s nice to know a day of skiing is within driving distance. Who needs to hop a plane to Colorado or Utah when winter fun is right in your own backyard?

You must plan a vacation to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon. It is just simply amazing and the maze of canyons, fissures, and gorges intertwine and merge to create one of the world’s most amazing natural wonders. You can actually see the different colors of the rock in the many layers that make up the canyon not to mention the way the sun reflects on them, and then the shadow, affects their color, which is awe inspiring in and of itself. The beauty of the Canyon is one thing, the size is another and it is just as amazing if not more so.
The canyon is huge and that may even be an understatement. The canyon measures between 10 and 15 miles wide and is more than 200 miles long. At some parts of the canyon it measures nearly a mile to the bottom. Can you imagine looking over the edge of the canyon and the ground being a mile below? It truly is one of the must see places in the world, let alone the United States. The Grand Canyon National Park includes the Grand Canyon and other sites and is located north of Flagstaff, Arizona, by about 75 miles. It will take about an hour and a half to get to the north rim’s visitor center from Flagstaff, or if you are in Las Vegas plan on a five hour drive. The south rim’s visitor center requires a 200 mile drive although it is only 10 miles away if you could fly your car over!
The south rim is the best place to visit if you are only visiting one of the rims. That is because the views are outstanding and it has more facilities than the north rim center. More tourists visit the south rim because the north rim is closed from October to May. If you are a backpacker or don’t like crowds then you might prefer the north rim. The Grand Canyon Village is a great place to stay when visiting because there are hotels, souvenir shops, and restaurants near the south rim.
The best thing to do when visiting the Grand Canyon is to allow yourself plenty of time. There is a lot to see and although it might look like you can do it all in one day you may not be able to and really enjoy it. So, give yourself plenty of time when you are at the Grand Canyon so you can see all the rims, head down to the basin, whitewater raft, and just enjoy this beautiful natural wonder.

You know you’re from Arizona, it’s been said, when you feed your chickens ice cubes to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.
Though humorous, the saying aptly describes Arizona’s climate. In Scottsdale, as in any other city in Arizona, the weather is mostly sunny the whole year round. This is one of the reasons Scottsdale is very popular among tourists, particularly as a retirement destination. Known as The West’s Most Western Town, Scottsdale has gained international renown as a prime and posh tourist destination. It is famous for its art galleries, golf courses, and craft shops. It is just as well-known for its horse shows and rodeo festivals.
The hotels in Scottsdale, Arizona are one of a kind, and they’re one of the reasons the city is able to contribute millions of dollars to the economy of Greater Phoenix. These hotels are havens of luxury and relaxation and are the perfect places to go to for pampering and recreation. Most of the hotels in Scottsdale, Arizona come with top-notch fitness centers and spas. In fact, the city itself has the highest number of spas per capita in the U.S.
When in the city, you will never run out of wonderful hotels to check into. The Scottsdale Plaza is one of the most opulent hotels in Scottsdale, Arizona. Located near Camelback Mountain, it provides a stunning backdrop for your golf game, wedding, or theme parties. It is the proud owner of Arizona’s largest whirlpool spa.
The Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North also boasts of a location that is just as scenic. Nestled in the foothills of North Scottsdale, the Four Seasons is one of the most dramatic settings in the valley and is an excellent vantage point for anyone who wants to see the desert on foot.
If, on the other hand, you intend to spend most of your time in the golf course, then book a room at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Easily one of the hotels in Scottsdale, Arizona with an excellent golf course, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess has partnered with the Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale and two other reputable golfing organizations.
The plush hotels in Scottsdale, Arizona are not the only accommodations open to you, however. If you want a more rustic experience, then why not spend your time in an Arizona cabin? This type of lodging lets you experience a lifestyle reminiscent
of pioneer life. You can stay at the Whispering Pines Resort, the Ponderosa Cabin, Spruce Cabin, Juniper Cabin, or the Bear Lodge. For very reasonably priced accommodations, try the Best Western Papago Inn. Described by the New York Times as Scottsdale’s finest resort, it boasts of close proximity to the Phoeniz Zoo, the Desert Botanical Gardens, and the Scottsdale Civic Center. To make reservations at any of the hotels in Scottsdale, Arizona, try browsing through sites, such as http://www.Holiday4You.com.
So, how do you know you’re in Arizona? Another local joke provides a ready answer: you know you’re in Arizona when even your fake plants are wilting. While Arizona might wreak havoc on artificial plants, however, there is no reason you should let it do the same on your purse strings.
Looking for hotels in Scottsdale, Arizona? Visit Holiday4You.com to find the perfect place to rent for your next vacation. You can also find here hotels in downtown Chicago, Illinois for you to rent or even exotic villa vacations for your next holiday.

Cave Creek is one of those towns you must visit the next time you are in Arizona. Situated in Maricopa County, about half an hour northeast of downtown Phoenix, in the Valley of the Sun.
First settled in the 1870s as a mining camp the town incorporated in 1986; consequently it will celebrate its 20th Anniversary this year. In fact, a visit to the Cave Creek Museum is very informative and is well worth it.
Nestled on the western side of Black Mountain, the town recently took steps that will lead to the opening of hiking trails on that mountain, which hopefully will lead to its preservation as a nature reserve. In that light, in recent years Cave Creekers voted to buy, via a self-imposed tax, the several thousand acres that now form the Spur Cross Ranch Preservation area. This is a very popular local attraction that provides many hiking trails, of varying difficulty, as well as many guided tours by park rangers through normally restricted areas several times a year.
About 10 miles east is the Tonto National Forest, which just recently was blanketed in a foot of snow; an occurrence that happens roughly once a decade that brought many visitors from all around, the youngest of which were glimpsing the white stuff, in person, for the first time.
Cave Creek is well known as an equestrian town and seeing a horse on the highway is almost a daily occurrence. Many homes, usually on more than 2 acres, are zoned with horse privileges in mind. (Check with the very helpful folks at Cave Creek Town Hall to make sure). The two main equestrian events are Fiesta Days in the spring and Wild West Days in the fall, which attract many visitors to the town.
The main street offers western flavored stores, including many saloon-style Bar/Restaurants. And yes, you will see a horse tied up outside, just like the movies. We also have a world class five star restaurant, Binkley’s, which is a treat this writer reserves for special occasions.
Buying a single family home in Cave Creek “proper”, generally, but not exclusively, north of Carefree Highway starts in the low $400s, and goes all the way up to the multi-millions. At the higher end, many homes have between 4 and 10 car garages, and it is not at all unusual, on the weekend, to see motorcycles and antique cars touring through the countryside.
If you were ever thinking of coming to Cave Creek, there has never been a better time. Prices have leveled, if not dipped slightly, since the madness of last year, giving buyers an opportunity to negotiate a fair price for their next home.
I live in Cave Creek myself, and heartily recommend it.

Tucson is the largest city in southern Arizona and the second largest in the state, next to Phoenix. The name Tucson stems from the Spanish word Cuk Son, which means Black Base. This refers to the west site of the city, which is notably littered with volcanic mountains. The city itself is a panoramic tableau of rolling hills, cactus forests, and mountains that seem as boundless and eternal as the sky.
In history, Tucson is a melting pot of the cultures of two countries: the United States and Mexico. It has a long history of settlement, first by the native Americans, then by the Spanish explorers, and finally, by frontier pioneers. Clearly, Tucson combines just the right mix of history with natural beauty, and it is precisely this mixture that attracts visitors in hordes.
If you’re planning to visit the city, you need not worry. There are many hotels in Tucson, Arizona and these run the gamut from affordable to heartbreakingly expensive. If you’re on a tight budget, the best accommodation for you would be an accredited member of the Arizona Association of Bed and Breakfast Inns. One of the little hotels in Tucson, Arizona that you could try is the Elysian Grove Market, an historic Tucson Barrio Bed and Breakfast. It is a quaint little inn that is furnished with folk art and antiques from both the southwest and Mexico. It boasts of a garden teeming with cactus, mesquites, fountains, and hummingbirds.
If this is not your cup of tea, however, you could take your pick from the bigger hotels in Tucson, Arizona. One example is the Lowes Ventana Canyon Resot. Nestled within the foothills of the Catalina Mountains, the Lowes has 398 guestrooms and each one has its own balcony that showcases the breathtaking view of the desert, he Catalina Mountains, or rows upon rows of Tucson buildings.
Another good pick from among the hotels in Tucson, Arizona is the Arizona Inn. This four-star retreat was built in the 1930s and boasts not only of thoroughly modern amenities and wonderful landscapes, but also of a daily ice-cream social which takes place by its 60-feet outdoor pool, from June to September.
My final pick would be a most welcome place for avid golf players. Among the countless hotels in Tucson, Arizona is one that rests on a 650-acre championship golf course. The Omni Tucson National Resort was named one of the 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America by the Golf Digest. It has 167 large guestrooms, all of them located in different buildings throughout the resort. All rooms have large walk-in closets, separate vanity areas, and its own fully-furnished patio with the guest’s choice of mountain or golf course view. As part of its package, the Omni offers free use of its tennis club, along with free lessons, for its guests.
If you want to book any of the places I reviewed, or perhaps expand your selection of hotels in Tucson, Arizona, visit online sites such as http://holiday4you.com and try their search engines. Tuscan, Arizona is as good a place as any to enjoy the nightlife, play golf on pristine courses, feast on sumptuous dishes, and revitalize the body, and the mind at tranquil spas.

The number one reason why people move from other states to Arizona is because of it’s weather. Arizona has 8 beautiful months a year. The winter is perfect. The spring is full of life. The summer is bearable with the dry heat. The fall is full of weather that will keep anybody active. There are no down months in Arizona because of cold.
The winter months are what attract tens of thousands of winter visitors. Many residents of places like Wisconsin or even as far as New York will make a second home in Arizona for the Winter Months. Canadians are taking advantage of the low value of the dollar and are buying up arizona real estate like hot cakes. They also are attracted to the winters here. There will be no shoveling of snow or any cars that will have trouble starting because of the cold. Many northerners sport shorts and t-shirts during the winter months. Golfing season is at it’s peak during these unlikely sunny months. Arizona can be a busy place in the winter and I doubt if there is any place that is as lively in the dead of the winter. If you miss the snow, it is only a one and a half hour drive from just about anywhere in Arizona. You can have the best of two worlds.
The spring time is an interesting time. Many future winter visitors will spend the spring months looking for a home to buy. The best time for real estate is the spring months in Arizona. The weather is great and it is a good time to buy so that one can make their move by the time the school year ends. Spring is also brings bright desert blossoms and vegetation of nearly every sort. Plants strive with the mild weather and plenty of sunshine making Arizona a beautiful place.
The summer is the least popular time of the year for anybody. People will close escrow on there homes they found in the spring, but nearly nobody searches for a home during the 100+ degree weather. The positives is that almost everybody has access to a pool. Many communities have a pool accessible to the neighbors ran by the association. If not more than a third of home owners own a pool. Residents know how to keep cool in the summer. Homes are built with high quality insulation and we seemed to have perfected air conditioning. Everybody and every car has it. There are also lakes and preserves that will facilitate boats and fishing.
Well if you can make it through the summer the fall is splendid. The weather cools down and the evenings are bliss. There isn’t much wind or cold fronts, just mild weather. Still there is plenty of sun and very few cloudy days. This is about the time winter visitors began to return to Arizona so things liven up a bit.
With so much sunshine year round and dry weather, Arizona is a welcoming place for anybody. If you aren’t a sun worshipper you will be okay. There are plenty of attractions to Arizona besides the sun.

Are you looking for magnificent natural wonders? How about affordable housing? These are just two of the top five reasons to relocate to sunny Arizona.
Do you like sunny weather? Arizona can boast that it has, on average, 300 days (or more) of sunshine every year! Whether you believe it or not, the folks who reside in Arizona will be the first to tell you that the “dry heat” is much better than dealing with the “high humidity”. Ok, so you want to ski and snowboard? Just make a trip to Flagstaff during the winter and you can do both at an elevation of 12,000 feet.
Natural wonders in Arizona are many, but topping the list is the Grand Canyon, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Grand Canyon delivers breathtaking scenery, hiking, camping, and many other activities. Other popular natural wonders throughout the state of Arizona are Monument Valley, Saguaro National Park, the Colorado River and the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert, to name a few. There is even a mountain in the shape of a camel! If you are a resident of Arizona, vacation spots are “right in your own backyard”.
Arizona can say it is the fastest growing state right now. According to Tom Rex, associate director of the Center for Competitiveness and Prosperity Research at Arizona State University, “There are housing developments sprouting everywhere, whether they are on former farmland or in the desert.” Housing is so affordable in Arizona, there are Californians who are relocating to take advantage of the reasonably priced homes.
Due to the fact that there is a phenomenal housing boom, the economy is very strong. With all of the homes being built, there are plenty of jobs, and Arizona is also “a hotbed of in-home businesses.”
Another good reason to move to Arizona is to live in Phoenix, “The Valley of the Sun”. This city has constantly earned top marks for its resort amenities, for its business climate and for its educational institutions. It has long been established as an ideal retirement city due to sun-filled, 85 degree days, more than 190 golf courses, and numerous other recreational opportunities. Phoenix features several health-care facilities throughout the city. Disneyland and the San Diego Zoo are each only a 6-hour drive or 1-hour flight from Phoenix.
A beautiful climate year round, natural wonders in every direction, affordable housing, a growing and strong economy (great job opportunities), and an exciting city like Phoenix are all compelling reasons to consider moving to Arizona. I might even consider it myself!

With incredible warm weather year around, Arizona is a popular destination to relax. Throw in a twist of spirituality, shaken not stirred, and you have a very popular state indeed.
Finding Balance and Relaxation In Arizona
Miraval Life in Balance is one of the more popular spiritual relaxation destinations in Arizona. Much of this is due to the fact the facility has Dr. Andrew Weil, the wellness guru, on staff. This best selling author developed the wellness program at Miraval and leads workshops on a variety of subjects. As if that wasn’t enough, Miraval also offers to not service for your every need, not to mention a food service that will leave you with a content smile on your face. Miraval Life in Balance is located at 5000 E. Via Estancia Miraval in Catalina, Arizona. You can contact Miraval at 800-363-0819 to make reservations. With the presences of Dr. Weil, make sure to plan well ahead.
Canyon Ranch SpaClub is typical of the Canyon Ranch brand. The facilities are designed to provide an upscale, but healthy, dimension to your visit. You can have a go at fully equipped gyms and fitness classes for a bit of exercise or just give in to pampering with delightful facials and body treatments. Canyon Ranch SpaClub is located at 8600 E. Rockcliff Road in Tucson, Arizona. You can call for reservations at 520-749-9655. Business travelers are welcome.
Radisson Fort McDowell Resort & Casino is more of a classic hotel. It offers spa services as well as pool and exercise facilities. The obvious advantage, however, is it does this in concert to the gambling and nightlife scene. If you enjoy placing a wager or dancing away the night, this might be the place. It is located at 10438 N. Fort McDowell Casino, in Scottsdale and can be reached at (480) 789-5300.
The Phoenician is luxury at its best. On par with the Ritz Carlton chain, the Phoenician offers high end enjoyment and relaxation. Walk out the door of your room onto a world class golf course that is home to PGA tournaments. Turn to the left, and you can lounge by the pool, take in a cigar bar or receive spa treatment that will make you melt. The best thing about the Phoenician is it is located in Scottsdale, which makes it easy to get to.
Arizona lodgings are plentiful. From Phoenix to Scottsdale to Flagstaff to Sedona, it sometimes seems the entire state is one big wellness zone. Give it a try and enjoy!
